Limited Edition Prints from the series Deadheading
Prints from my recent project Deadheading are now available to buy.
Deadheading documents the fragile and transient beauty of decay by recording one phase in the cycle of growth, prime, death and rebirth. What we may perceive as dead, untidy, undesirable and imperfect is, in fact, nature’s magnificence. Read more about this project and see the photographs here.
I believe that the paper, which carries a work of art influences the way, in which we experience the work. It is not just a supporting medium in the background but becomes a physically and intellectually inseparable part of the finished object.
For this edition I have chosen Kozo paper from Awagami, a Japanese paper mill. Traditional Japanese papermaking uses fibres — in particular Kozo — that are much longer than the fibres used in Western papermaking. This produces elegant paper that is thin, crisp and delicate yet very strong. Whilst in the West we think that only thick paper is good paper, it is in fact the techniques for making thin papers that show the real skills of the papermaker. The prints are produced in-house by myself as a limited edition of six. They are numbered and signed and come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
