Awagami Bamboo Fine Art Paper

Close-up texture of a fine art monochrome print on archival Awagami Bamboo 250gsm paper

For the monochrome prints from my Nightsky series I needed a paper that was substantial enough to carry the dense ink coverage. I still did not want something that resembled cardboard. I chose AIJP (Awagami Inkjet Paper) Bamboo paper made in Japan, crafted by an eighth generation family mill specialising in Awa Washi.

The paper proved so beautiful, tactile and perfectly suited to photography prints of exceptional quality that I have since used it in other projects.

Environmental Integrity with Substantial Weight

This dense paper is a fine organic choice, which exhibits eco-friendly advantages over cotton-based papers. It is made from a mix of 70% bamboo and 30% recycled pulp. As is the case with all papers from this Japanese manufacturer, it is made with utmost care for fine print output and archival longevity. The nominal weight of this paper is 250 gsm. It is a natural rather than artificially bright (chemically bleached) white. This paper has a wonderfully natural look and feel.

A paper of this calibre will always display a certain amount of variation from one sheet to another. For instance, some minute irregularity in the pulp or the occasional tiny fleck may be visible. This is not a fault but a result of the paper making process, which marks it out over the sterility of mass produced papers.
