Garden Photography Commissions

Garden Photography Commissions by internationally published and exhibited photographer Wolf Kettler

As a passionate gardener myself I know how to understand a garden, I know what I am photographing and appreciate how much it means to you. When you commission me to photograph the sanctity of your garden, I promise that I will treat your garden with sensitivity, patience and respect.

Our individual way of seeing and interacting with the garden is perhaps the most important aspect in understanding our gardens: You will have favourite areas in the garden, favourite views and treasured plants - and they are not necessarily the most obvious. You may use your garden differently at different times of the day and throughout the year. Perhaps you spend time in different parts of the garden depending on your mood, just as much as the garden itself will affect your mood.

How the garden reveals itself to us changes throughout the day. Everything is in constant flux. Every day is different, every hour is unique. Gardeners value their time in the garden because no one moment will ever be repeated and no two moments are ever the same.

The Process

Please use my contact form to supply some initial details and I will get back to you to arrange a telephone call.

Before the photo session, I want to gain a good understanding of your garden - location, size, orientation, layout, your favourite areas and favourite times of the day, etc. - and also how you relate to your garden; how you use it, how it makes you feel, what it means to you. Depending on the size and complexity of your garden, a pre-session site visit will be tremendously beneficial.

Once I am familiar with your requirements and expectations, including your ‘must-haves’, I will email you a quotation for the photo session. We will then decide on a date. Please allow a few days either side because of weather considerations.

The Session

I will arrive at the agreed time. Often, photographing gardens will mean creating photographs at the beginning and the end of the day. These can be the times in the day when the light is most favourable.

I would love to have you there with me but if this is not possible, you can simply enable me to access the garden at the agreed date and time. Do not feel that you have to greet me in person if it is a sunrise start. Please be sure that everybody in the house knows about my visit. If you have very watchful neighbours, it may be useful to let them know.

Once I have photographed everything that was intended I will head back to start work on the post-production process.

After the Session

Within a few days after the photo session you can see your photographs on a private, password protected page on my website.

Without a doubt, the most beautiful way of displaying photographs is as framed prints. Prints are crafted individually in-house by myself to exhibition standard, using the finest archival quality photographic materials. Every print is an original.

Another option is a beautiful, bound coffee table style photobook of the very highest quality. For on-screen viewing I can produce a set of digital files for you.
